Uptober Team Accuses Influencer Jaypeg of $2,200 Memecoin Promotional Scam
The team behind the “Uptober” memecoin has accused popular crypto influencer Jaypeg of executing a promotional scam. The controversy arose after Jaypeg allegedly received 2% of Uptober’s supply, valued at around $2,200, to promote the project. However, instead of fulfilling the agreement, the influencer reportedly sold the tokens and denied receiving them.
Members of Uptober’s Telegram group claim Jaypeg accepted the promotion deal in a thread, received the funds, and then deleted the receiving address from the chat. The influencer later claimed the posted address was random and unrelated to him.
To investigate, the team enlisted onchain sleuth ZackXBT, who found evidence contradicting Jaypeg’s denial. ZackXBT revealed that the wallet address in question, beginning with “8jpz1p,” matched the one used to claim Solana Saga airdrops on January 10, 2024 — just hours after Jaypeg posted an unboxing video of the Solana Saga smartphone and mentioned the airdrops.
Jaypeg has since claimed that the Uptober team is attempting to blackmail him and, in a public apology, stated that he donated the money to charity.
