Bitcoin Stays Quiet as BNB and Dogecoin Push Higher

Total market capitalization is still around $2.18 trillion, with trading activity relatively quiet. But if you look a little closer, there are some interesting moves happening. Bitcoin is struggling to get away from the $63,000–$64,000 range, while a few major altcoins are performing noticeably better. Dogecoin and BNB are leading the gains, with Solana also having a relatively strong week. At the same time, traders are waiting for the latest US inflation numbers. With oil prices climbing and geopolitical uncertainty still hanging over markets, the CPI report could easily become the catalyst for the next major move.

DOGE and BNB Are Doing What Bitcoin Can’t

Dogecoin is currently one of the strongest names among the major cryptocurrencies. DOGE has gained almost 3% and is trading around $0.07, bringing its weekly gain to roughly 3% as well. It’s not a massive move, but in a market where Bitcoin is struggling to move, DOGE’s ability to keep climbing is getting attention. BNB is having an even more interesting run. The token rose roughly 2% to around $614 and briefly touched $620, its highest level in about two months, before pulling back slightly. BNB has been steadily moving higher since the start of August, even as Bitcoin has spent much of the same period going sideways. Now it has reached a level that could determine what happens next: the 200-day moving average. A clean break above that level would make the recent rally look much healthier. If BNB gets rejected, however, traders may start questioning whether the move has enough strength behind it. The rest of the market is a little quieter. TRX is up close to 1% at just under $0.34, while XRP has added more than 0.5% and is trading slightly above $1. XRP is still down around 5% over the past week, though. Solana is around $76, up roughly 3% over seven days, while Ethereum is trading near $1,890. Hyperliquid has been weaker, falling more than 1% to around $54 and remaining down about 3% for the week. So this isn’t really a market where everything is moving together. Some coins are attracting buyers, while others are still struggling.

CZ Finally Says Something

There was also a small moment on X that got the crypto community talking. A follower asked Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ): Screenshot-2026-08-12-142057-300x137 Bitcoin Stays Quiet as BNB and Dogecoin Push Higher That’s about as much of a comment as he gave. Still, the timing is interesting. BNB has been one of the stronger large-cap tokens lately, and CZ mentioning the move while BNB is sitting near a two-month high naturally caught people’s attention. It’s probably not worth treating the post as a trading signal, but it does highlight something that’s already visible on the chart: BNB has been holding up surprisingly well while Bitcoin remains stuck. The next thing that matters is whether buyers can get BNB through the 200-day moving average.

Bitcoin Is Still Stuck in the Middle

Bitcoin is having a much less exciting day. BTC dropped to around $63,300 on Tuesday before finding support near its 50-day moving average. Since then, it hasn’t really gone anywhere. The price has spent most of the past month hovering around this area, and the 50-day moving average itself is almost completely flat. In other words, the market doesn’t seem to have made up its mind. There is also some pressure coming from larger and longer-term holders taking profits, which has made it harder for Bitcoin to build momentum. That doesn’t necessarily mean a bigger drop is coming. It simply means buyers haven’t been strong enough to push BTC into a convincing new uptrend. For now, $63,000 is the level everyone will be watching on the downside, while a move back above the mid-$64,000 area would give bulls something more encouraging to work with.

The Whale Activity Is Interesting

There is one part of the Bitcoin picture that doesn’t look quite as weak. Santiment says the number of Bitcoin addresses holding more than 10,000 BTC has climbed to 90, the highest level in around six months. At the same time, smaller wallets have been reducing their balances during August. That creates an interesting situation. Some long-term investors appear to be taking profits, while some of the largest holders are continuing to build their positions. It’s too early to call that a major bullish signal, but it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on. If large holders continue accumulating while Bitcoin stays above $63,000, the picture could start looking more constructive.

Everyone Is Waiting for CPI

For all the crypto-specific stories happening today, the biggest market driver may have nothing to do with crypto at all. It’s US inflation. The latest CPI data is expected to give traders a better idea of where the Federal Reserve could be heading with interest rates. A softer inflation reading would probably be welcomed by markets. It could strengthen expectations for rate cuts and give investors more confidence to move into riskier assets. Bitcoin would likely benefit from that environment, and altcoins that are already showing strength could get an even bigger boost. A hotter inflation reading would be a different story. If inflation remains stubbornly high, traders could push back expectations for rate cuts. That could keep financial conditions tight and make it harder for Bitcoin to break higher. And that’s why this particular CPI release matters so much. Bitcoin is already sitting at a crossroads. It doesn’t take much of a catalyst to push a market like this out of its range.

So, What Actually Matters From Here?

For now, the market doesn’t have a clear direction. Bitcoin is stuck around $63K–$64K. DOGE and BNB are doing better. SOL is showing decent weekly momentum. Large Bitcoin holders are accumulating, while some long-term investors are taking profits. And everyone is waiting for the inflation data. The most interesting setup may actually be BNB. If it can finally clear its 200-day moving average, it could give traders another reason to look at altcoins more closely. But Bitcoin is still the one that matters most. If BTC can hold the $63,000 area and start moving higher, the strength we’re seeing in DOGE, BNB and SOL could become much more meaningful. If Bitcoin loses that support, however, today’s altcoin gains could disappear pretty quickly. For now, there isn’t a need to force a bullish or bearish story onto the market.
